John White, Helen Devery get
John D. White, who founded the JD White Company in 1976, now a division of Federal Way-based BERGER/ABAM Engineers, has been promoted from vice president and general manager of the Vancouver office to regional client development director, in which capacity he will coordinate client growth in the Pacific Northwest region, which includes the Vancouver, Federal Way, Seattle and Portland offices. Helen Devery, who joined the JD White Company 1994, has been promoted to Vancouver office branch manager. Devery had been planning manager. White will continue to spend about half his time in direct project work with current and future clients, according to BERGER/ABAM president and CEO Arnie Rusten. White, a 20007 Vancouver First Citizen, is a member of the Clark College Board of Trustees, the board of directors of Southwest Washington Medical Center, the board of the National Neon Museum, and the advisory council for Washington State University Vancouver, and he is a director of the Bank of Clark County. Devery is a member of the board of the Columbia River Economic Development Council, the Clark County Community Pride Design awards committee, and is a secretary and member of the board of Affordable Community Environments. BERGER/ABAM offers consulting services in land use planning, natural resources, civil and structural engineering, public involvement and construction management.
Pink Power strikes again at Big Al’s Expecting to raise the final half million dollars for construction of the Breast Care Center building at Southwest Washington Medical Center, Pink Power strikes again. Backers are inviting the public to an evening of winning prizes, shopping, arcade games, big-screen horse racing, food, drink, music, dancing and bowling at Big Al’s in east Vancouver from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, May 8. Pre-registration is required for the $125-per-person event, according to Pink Power co-chair Jody Campbell. Traditional Pow Wow offers fun for all ages It’s entertaining, It’s educational. It’s fun for all ages. It’s free. It is the annual American Indian Education program and Pow Wow in the Covington Middle School, 11200 NE Rosewood Road. American Indian students from the Vancouver, Evergreen and Battle Ground School Districts share their traditions in two sessions Saturday, March 8, beginning at 1 and 6 p.m. Each session begins with a grand entry. The event features singing, dancing, drumming in the Native American tradition. Fry bread and Indian tacos will be available, as will a wide variety of Native American arts and crafts. Junior Symphony of Vancouver The Junior Symphony of Vancouver, conducted by Timoteus Racz, presents a concert featuring the music of Handel, Purcell and Granados at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the Vancouver First Church of God, 3300 NE 78th Street. skiing Free skiing with all-day free Fusion Pass lift tickets at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and the Timberline ski area is being offered by the Sunshine Division of the Portland Police Bureau in exchange for four cans of nonperishable food, reports Tim McLaughlin, Sunshine Division spokesperson. The food-for-skiing exchange is in its 20th year. Skiers are to take canned food to Sunshine Division trucks in the parking lot of either ski area to obtain free lift tickets.
