Columbia crossing task force The Columbia River Crossing Task Force, meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, will discuss environmental findings and financing options for four alternatives being considered as possible replacements of the twin I-5 bridges linking Washington and Oregon. The task force is not expected to take any action at the meeting in the Hilton Vancouver Washington. There will, however, be a period set aside to accept public comment, beginning at 4:40 p.m. Four options are being considered by the task force, ranging from doing nothing to replacing augmenting the Columbia River bridges. In addition to focusing on the I-5 bridges, the task force is also considering improvements to the I-5 freeway on both sides of the Columbia River from Highway 500 in Vancouver to Columbia Boulevard in Portland. Commerce The Clark County Chamber of Commerce is offering six college scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $2,000, according to chamber president and CEO Walt Ronish. Clark County high school seniors are eligible for the scholarships which will be awarded March 11, Ronish says. Reception tomorrow opens museum’s A reception tomorrow, Jan. 17, opens the Clark County Historical Museum’s three-month exhibit “Sustaining Change on the American Farm: An Artist/Farmer Exchange.” The reception is from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit runs through April 30. The traveling exhibit is from the Maryhill Museum of Art. The exhibit is an artistic interpretation of how farms conserve natural resources and cultural heritage while making allowance for a growing population. The exhibit also features local art and museum artifacts and tools from Clark County. The Thursday event is free, according to museum executive director Susan Tissot. Dentist sought to fill The Clark County Board of Health is seeking applications for two positions open on the Clark County Public Health Advisory council, one of which is to be filled by a practicing dentist. The other position is open to a public health services consumer. The advisory council identifies community health needs and evaluates the impact of of proposed public health policies and programs. People Named students of the month for December at the Clark County Skills Center were Roman Chmut, Heritage High School, and Ashley Lockwood, La Center High School. News brief The Port of Vancouver’s 2008 Port Report is at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay. Port officials will review marine and industrial activity of the past year, as well as future plans of the “major economic engine” in southern Washington.
