WSU Homecoming
Saturday All Washington State University Cougars are invited to a homecoming party at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in the Firstenburg Student Commons on the WSU Vancouver Salmon Creek Campus. The homecoming event includes a televised showing of the WSU, University of Arizona football game at 7 p.m. Admission is $25 per adult, $5 for children five through 12. There will be a live band and a no-host beer garden for persons over 21. Homecoming includes an Oktoberfest-style meal, entertainment, an appearance by Butch the WSU mascot, and two projection screens and three 52-inch television sets for game viewing. Utilities celebrating Cark Public Utilities will celebrate Public Power Week with an open house and refreshments, following its 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, commissioners’ meeting. The public is invited to meet informally with the commissioners and utility staff members during the open house, says commission president Nancy Barnes. Open houses to
present 33.2-mile Early October open houses presenting plans for a 33.2-mile trail along the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad from the mouth of Burnt Bridge Creek at Vancouver Lake to Chelatchie Prairie in northern Clark County are being presented in two open houses by the Clark County Public Works Department and Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation. Funding for the proposed project is being provided by a federal transportation enhancement grant, dedicated real estate excise taxes and the Clark County road fund. The first open house is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Yacolt Elementary School, 406 W Yacolt Road. The second is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in Brush Prairie High School, 11500 NE 117th Avenue Alzheimer’s Association sets forum A free public forum on Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association and the Southwest Washington Area Agency on Aging, features Laura Baker, assistant professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, at the University of Washington. The forum is from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Southwest Washington Medical Center Health Education auditorium at 400 NE Mother Joseph Place. In addition to providing information on research, the forum will include a panel discussion on local resources for support of individuals who have memory problems. The county planning commission advises county commissioners on land-use planning, zoning and development in rural areas outside of city limits in Clark County. Terms are for six years.
