Skills Center adds three foundation members

Todd Burchett               Mike Cochran              Constance Kratovil

Recently elected to the Clark County Skills Center Foundation board of directors are Todd Burchett, Mike Cochran and Constance Kratovil.9

The foundation benefits the Skills Center, owned by ten southwest Washington school districts, which provides technical and professional training programs that prepare county high school and college students for the workforce.

Burchett is a vice president and commercial banking officer for Pacific Continental Bank. He is a graduate of Clark College, Washington State University and the Pacific Coast Banking School. Burchett is vice president of the Clark College Penguin Athletic Club and a member of the Washougal High School Business Advisory Committee and the City of Camas Design Review Committee.

Cochran is a senior vice president at the Bank of Clark County. A native of Clark County, Cochran graduated from the University of Washington. He is a member of the board of directors of the Club at the Historic Reserve.

Kratovil is a professional engineer and senior project manager for Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas Inc., Portland. She is a graduate of Oregon State University. While with the City of Vancouver in Transportation Services, Kratovil was responsible for a $40 million Transportation Improvement Program and the $34 million Mill Plain Extension project.

Turbo Eats delivering from nearly
a dozen local family restaurants

From Juliano’s Pizzeria to Rib City Grill, Turbo Eats is delivering full meals to businesses and residences throughout the Vancouver area.

Turbo Eats is the brain child of husband-and-wife team Mike Sarjeant and Alice Yang, whose goal is to deliver complete meals from restaurants that do not usually make deliveries.

Business customers currently are the mainstay of the new enterprise. But at only $6.50 per delivery and no markup on the lunch or dinner it’s catching on with residential customers, too.

Deliveries from 11 family restaurants are made between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays.

Workforce Development Council
gets boost in state funding

Because of increased population and because some communities in the southwest Washington region have not been keeping up with economic recovery elsewhere in the state, the State Employment Security Commission has allocated the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council $4.9 million, up $260,000 from last year, for job skill assessments, training and job referrals for laid-off workers and for those who have dropped out, or at risk of dropping out, of school.

Last year the local workforce council provided training for 768 people and placed 1,020 local residents into jobs.

$15 sports physicals

Two separate organizations are offering school sports physicals for $15 each for students who need physicals to be cleared for playing school sports during the 2007-2008 school year.

Family Medicine of Southwest Washington is conducting sports physicals from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in the Southwest Washington Medical Center Memorial campus, 100 E 33rd Street.

Nursing staff and students at Washington State University Vancouver have scheduled their sports physical clinic for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the Battle Ground High School gymnasium.

Students must bring a school form and also a permission form if not accompanied by a parent or guardian. No appointment is needed. For further information on Family Medicine physicals, call 514-7550. For further information on the WSU Vancouver physicals, call 546-9619.
