Tami Weisman named events
coordinator
Tami Weisman has been named events coordinator for the Alan Webb Automotive Group, reports owner Alan Webb. A native of Vancouver, Weisman is a graduate of Washington State University. Weisman was formerly membership services and events coordinator for the Building Industry Association of Clark County. The Alan Webb Automotive Group sells and services Nissan, Saturn, Mazda and Dodge automobiles. Clark College dental hygiene
students For the 36th year, all Clark College dental hygiene students have passed the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination. All 23 of this year’s graduating dental hygiene class passed, as have all other graduating dental hygiene students since the program began in 1970. According to interim president Bob Knight, Clark College is the only institution that has achieved a 100 percent pass record. Over the past ten years Clark has rated between 3rd and 49th place among 264 national dental hygiene programs. Orienteering event to
benefit Walkers, joggers and runners, many using maps, compasses and GPS devices, will participate in the first Discover VancouverUSA Ramble, a benefit event for the Vancouver-Clark Parks Foundation by the Columbia River Orienteering Club on Saturday, July 21. The ramble is a variation of orienteering that takes place on city streets and trails. Over 100 checkpoints will be designated, and participants are judged by the number of checkpoints they find in designated time periods, according to Jerry Rhodes, meet director for the ramble. Entry fees are $10 per person, $20 teams or families of two, $25 for teams or families of 3 to 5. For further information, call Rhodes at 253-8632. Port of Vancouver offering May Tour A tour of the Port of Vancouver, which includes a box lunch, is noon to 1:30 pm. Thursday, May 24, reports Andrew Ness, port spokesperson. Reservations and photo identification are required for the tour that starts from port offices at 3103 NW Lower River Road, according to Ness. For reservations, call Ness at 992-1137. Capt. Lee Hazelton was named officer of the year. John Gentry was named deputy fire marshal of the year. <> Kurt Simonson, Clark College student and 2006 graduate of the Clark County Skills Center, has been awarded a $5,000 Automotive Youth Educational Services scholarship. Simonson is also finishing a three-year AYES internship at Vancouver Toyota. News brief This week is Public Works Week throughout the country, and Clark County Public Works reminds us that the department maintains more than 1,100 miles of roads and 75 bridges crossing rivers and streams. These travel routes range from major urban thoroughfares to backcountry lanes. All require inspection and upkeep. Starting this month, county Public Works will begin maintenance on nearly 100 miles of roadway around the county by applying a range of new overlays on existing road surfaces. Or, if necessary, workers may remove and replace deteriorating surfaces. Calendar The Camas-Washougal Port commission meets in regular session at 4 p.m. today. <> The Vancouver City Council meets in regular session at 7 p.m. this evening and is expected to adopt a resolution opposing a request to the Federal Communications Commission by Comcast Cable to increase local cable television rates. Comcast has petitioned the FCC to grant it authority to set all cable television rates and prevent the local telecommunications commission from having any authority to regulate cable rates. The city council is also expected to establish The Riverwest Revenue Development Area south of Evergreen Boulevard and west of the I-5 freeway, the site of the new Vancouver Community Library, a new hotel and other commercial properties.
