Tamara Pegel appointed

Tamara Pegel has been named manager of First Independent’s Vancouver Mall branch. Pegel, who joined First Independent as a management trainee in September, had served as lead personal banker for Baker Boyer National Bank, Walla. offered Billed as a workshop focusing on conducting a successful campaign, a workshop offered by Clark County for prospective election candidates is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in the county elections office, 1408 Franklin Street. Candidates may beginning filing by mail for elective office Monday, May 21. Filing in person will be Monday, June 4, through Friday, June 8. This year, for the first time in 60 years, there has been a change in the time of the primary election, which will be a month early, Tuesday, Aug. 21. Conducting segments of the free workshop are as follows: Clark County commissioner and former state representative Betty Sue Morris and state representative and former Vancouver City councilmember Jim Moeller, “Making the decision to run—campaign strategies.” Kathy McDonald, president of KMac & Associates, and former candidate for the state legislature Pat Campbell, “Nuts and Bolts of a Campaign.” Carol Curtis, serving her fifth term as a Clark Public Utilities’ commissioner, and state representative and former La Center councilmember Richard Curtis, “Being an Effective Non-partisan Elected Official.” Tim Likness, Clark County Elections director, Sally Parker, Washington State Public Disclosure commissioner, Curtis Knopp, state Department of Transportation, and Jane Van Dyke, League of Women Voters’ Fair Campaign Practices Project, “Tools and Resources.” Miller Nash offering free
seminar The Miller Nash law firm is offering a free informative seminar on what employers can do about employee misuse of workplace technology from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, in the Oregon Convention Center. YWCA disco night benefit The YWCA Clark County’s Outta Sight Disco Night benefit auction, sponsored by First Independent, opens with a silent auction at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Dinner will be served at 7:15 p.m., followed by a live auction and disco dancing. Auction items include an immaculate 1965 Fort Mustang and a one-week tour of southern France. Growth plan open houses A series of three open houses to discuss expansion of urban use areas as part of modifications in the county’s Comprehensive Growth Management Plan begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, in the Clark County Elections Building, 1408 Franklin Street. County commissioners are in the process of updating the growth management plan to accommodate an expected increase in population to nearly 600,000 residents by 2024. Under study are potential impacts on transportation, agriculture, and capital facilities, including schools, parks and utilities. Open houses continue at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, in the Dollars Corner Fire Station, 21609 NE 72nd Avenue, and the Fisher’s Landing Transit Center, 3510 SE 164th Avenue.
