Dunn takes lead over Campbell Incumbent Republican 17th District legislator Jim Dunn, who Thursday said he wasn't yet ecstatic when the vote county brought him within 144 votes of Democratic rival Pat Campbell, is likely at least smiling today since the continuing count of Clark County ballots put the veteran legislator ahead by 308 votes Friday. Most of the ballots in an election that brought out over 63 percent of the local electorate have been counted, and, although tabulations will continue next week, it appears Dunn's lead is definitive. director Douglas Zaharko has been named director of the Southwest Washington Medical Center’s new Wound Healing Center. The center, which will serve patients for patients with chronic and hard-to-heal wounds, opens in January. Zaharko most recently was medical management program manager for one of Southwest Washington Health Systems’ Clark United Providers. Previously he had been a clinical manager for PeaceHealth Medical Group, Longview. He also had worked for the Vancouver Clinic. A graduate of Carroll College, Helena, Mont., Zaharko served in a special forces group in the U.S. Army National Guard and is a retired law enforcement officer. Lynne LaCross of Mountain View High School and Kay Potter of Summit View High School, Battle Ground, this week were presented the first Workforce Friendly Educator awards, by the Southwest Washington Youth Council and the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council, for educators who are dedicated to helping students develop educational and workforce skills. LaCross, a career counselor at the 2,300-student school, was recognized for her workforce knowledge and commitment to students. Potter, a teacher at Battle Ground School District's 400-student Summit View High School, was credited with serving a pivotal role in the success of at-risk students and drop-outs engaged in school planning for their future. Annual Arc Achievement Awards announced Arc of Clark County, celebrating 70 years of service this year, will present annual Arc Achievement Awards during its 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, anniversary luncheon in the Hilton Vancouver Washington. The awards are presented to individuals and organizations which have contributed to achievements within the developmental disabled community. Winners are as follows: Betty Arnett, James Gould Leadership Award; Carrie Chilberg, the Betty Trunk Award; Charles B. Carter, and Parkrose Hardware, the Thompson Award; Frank Adams, Alice Twitchel and Michael McFadden, Arc Achievement Awards; Carol Schultz, Gay Jensen, and Martha’s Pantry, Arc Service Awards.
