Jada Rupley elected chairwoman
of Skill Center advisory committee

Jada Rupley, associate superintendent of Educational Service District 112, has been elected chairwoman of the Clark County Skills Center Advisory Board. Serving with Rupley as chairman-elect is Clark County Sheriff’s office commander Mike Anderson. Anderson had previously been chairman of the Clark County Skills Center Foundation.

The advisory board represents ten southern Washington school districts, which own the Skills Center, The Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council, the State Department of Labor and Industries, and ESD 112.The Skills Center provides technical and professional training programs to prepare Clark College high school and college students for the workforce.

Vancouver Symphony concert offers American
premiere of Salvador Brotons’s
Stabat Mater

The American premier of Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s conductor Salvador Brotons’s choral composition Stabat Mater is the feature work of weekend concerts by the symphonic orchestra and the Portland Symphonic Choir in Skyview High School, 1331300 NW 139th Street.

Soloists are Anna Haagenson and Clayton Brainerd.

Also on the bill are Brahms's Hungarian Dance #5 and Brahms's Double Concerto for Violin & Cello. Soloists are violinist Carol Sindell and cellist Hamilton Chiefetz.

The concerts, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, are each preceded by a musical conversation. Reserved seats are $35, general admission $25, seniors $20, and students $5.

Demos say they will party

The Democratic Party of Clark County, along with U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd), are hosting a “Victory Party” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the ILWU Longshore Workers Union Hall, 1205 Ingals Street.

Anyone who has worked for Democrats in this year’s general election is invited, according to county Democratic chairwoman Patrice Jacobs.
