Tabitha Reeder appointed
Tabitha Reeder, senior scientist at JD White, BERGER/ABAM Engineers Inc., has been appointed to the board of directors of Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center. Columbia Springs, at the 100-acre green space site of the Vancouver Trout Hatchery on Evergreen Highway, offers environmental education for students from kindergarten through college. Reeder was named an Accomplished Under 40 Businesswoman by the Vancouver Business Journal in 2005. She is one of the founders of Slow Food International’s local Clark County chapter. Reeder, a graduate of Leadership Clark County, earned an undergraduate degree at Western Washington University and a masters degree at Washington State University. Sheriff’s office presents Clark County custody officers and staff were recognized for outstanding service, innovative ideas, exemplary performance, and life-saving actions this week, in an awards ceremony presided over by sheriff Garry Lucas and chief jail deputy Jackie Batties. Honored for Life Saving Awards were the following: Custody officers Andy Wicks, Randy Robison, Erik Bjorkman, Stan Yinger, Vince Johnson, Tom Drake, Paul Bond, Brittney Cordell, Luke Hatcher; nurse Debra Bergquist; and Sgt. Paul Dougher. Sgt. Neal Karlsen was presented a Medal of Merit. Custody officer Brad Jett was cited for exemplary performance. Food services manager Clark Campbell and Sgt. Dan Plotner each was presented a Certificate of Appreciation. Nearly half the expected number Nearly 53,000 Clark County voters had returned mail-in ballots Thursday, representing almost half the 107,580 total vote expected by the Clark County Elections Department for the Nov. 7 general election. According to elections supervisor Tim Likness 57 percent of the 188, 737 registered voters are expected to return ballots either postmarked Tuesday, Nov. 7, or returned to voter drop-off locations by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7. Art on the Boulevard opens
Art on the Boulevard, the fine art gallery in the Vancouver Marketplace at Columbia Street and Evergreen Boulevard, opens a month-long show titled “Local Treasures” from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. Featured artists are Harry Wheeler, who works with oils, and potter Honna Sheffield. Light refreshments will be served. There is no charge. Calendar Robert Miller, author, historian and lecturer, presents “Native America: Discovered and Conquered” at 7 p.m. this evening in the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main Street. There is no charge for the lecture. Miller, an associate professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, is a citizen of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. There will be a book signing. n The Slocum House Theatre presents Chekhov’s The-Seagull at 8 p.m. tonight through Sunday, Nov. 5, with a matinee at 4 p.m. Sunday.
