Musical bronze sculptures showcased in
First Friday event at Art on the Boulevard

Unusual bronze musical sculptures by Eugene artist Steve Reinmuth enliven the First Friday gala in southern Washington’s largest art gallery, Art on the Boulevard, which opens at 5 p.m. today.

Also on exhibit are works by northwest painters Bill and Anne Jameson.

The event that continues until 8 p.m. is, according to sponsors Friends of the Arts, “open to the public at no charge and includes an opportunity to meet artists, and enjoy live musical entertainment and complementary light refreshments, including Northwest wines.”

Reinmuth’s and the Jamesons’ work will remain on display through Saturday, Oct. 28. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For further information, call 750-4499.

Don Appert wins second
national composition award

Clark College music professor Don Appert has been honored with an American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers ASCAPLUS award for the second consecutive year.

ASCAPLUS is an awards program that provides cash and recognition to active writers in the early and mid-stages of their careers and to established composers whose main activity is outside of broadcast media.

Appert, in his 17th season as music director and conductor of the Clark College Orchestra, is preparing for international performances of Prism, a work for chamber orchestras. He will conduct Prism with the Adany Symphony in Turkey in December and with the Oradea State Philharmonic in Romania in March.

Last year, Appert performed his work Elegy for String Orchestra in France, Romania, Portugal and Slovakia.
