Carol Keljo, Camas resident and president and co-owner of Security Signs Inc., Portland, has been elected chairwoman of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. Keljo is a University of Washington graduate. She is a member of the Greater Clark County Rotary Club, Women in Action and has been active in Junior Achievement. Elected with Keljo are Carmen Villarma, The Management Group, chair-elect; Lisa Dow, West Coast Bank, vice-chair; David Horowitz, David A. Horowitz, CPA, secretary-treasurer; and Mike Brandon, First Independent Bank, immediate past-chair. Newly elected board members are as follows: Sandy McCloud, Don Russo, Keith Wallace, Kevin Wann and Dennis Zea. Indian U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd) today expressed his support for modifying the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act to restrict off-reservation gaming, then explained why he voted against it. "I support this legislation," Baird said, "however I cannot in good conscience vote for an enormously consequential bill that was denied due process by the people's elected representatives." The proposed gaming bill was brought before the House of Representatives in a form that prohibited amendments and debate. Baird said, "A sufficient number of my colleagues had serious concerns with this legislation. They were denied the opportunity to debate this important issue and engage in fair up or down votes on their amendments." The bill, which required two-thirds approval in the House, failed by a 247 to 171 vote. "I have worked hard to ensure that Southwest Washington gaming issues are fair and transparent. This same principle should apply to gaming issues affecting all Americans," Baird said. Calendar The third in a series of
