Four days of music, food, arts, fun, sunshine
Four great days of music, food, arts, kids fun await visitors to the Taste of Vancouver in Esther Short Park this Labor Day weekend. Presented by KC Fuller’s Elite Marketing and benefiting the Hough Foundation, admission is $5 Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 through 4, and $10, Monday, Sept. 5. Children under 6 years of age are admitted free. Food vendors are Casablanca, Gustav’s, Shanahan’s, Johnsonville Brats, Rose’s Deli and Bakery, Golden Tusk Thai Food, Cascade Bar and Grill and Gray’s at the Park. Drinks are by Corwin’s Pepsi, Beringer, Budweiser, Widmer, Red Hook, and Aquafina. Children’s activities are nearly continuous. Additional activities include cooking shows, art exhibits and sales, and major weekend ball games presented by Comcast.

continue study of During a 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, work session, Clark County commissioners will continue deliberations leading to determination of the amount of urban growth areas to be allocated individual municipalities in the county as part of a revised Comprehensive Growth Management Plan. The new growth areas are expected to be larger than those allocated in the growth plan adopted last year, but never implemented. Only the City of Vancouver has not requested any substantial changes to its growth area. The work session will be in the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street. David DiCesare
named Community David DiCesare has joined the staff of the Community Foundation as development officer. A resident of Vancouver for the past 22 years, DiCesare served as an assistant to the city manager under then manager John Fischbach, where he initiated the Esther Short Redevelopment Plan, developed the joint city-county curbside recycling program, completed the Cooperative Management plan for the Historic Reserve, and initiated the county neighborhood association program. Most recently DiCesare was in charge of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library capital facilities campaign. The Community Foundation, serving Clark, Skamania and Cowlitz Counties, has assets of $48 million and awards about $4.5 million in grants and scholarships annually. Xtremez opening largest paintball The grand opening of the Extremez 14,000-square-foot paintball field, largest in the northwest, is at noon Saturday, Sept. 3, in the company’s new headquarters, 1212 Fourth Plain Boulevard. Free paintball clinics will be offered until 9 p.m. The Astroturf covered field will accommodate 40 players simultaneously. Extremez, founded in 1995,designs, distributes and sells retail equipment, accessories and apparel for the sport of paintball. For further information, go to www.extremez.com/field. People Julie Kummer, who for the past 10 years has been with Beaches Restaurant, the last three as evening manager, has been appointed general manager of The Club at the Historic Reserve on Officers Row. News brief Illegal flash-powder explosive devices seized in a recent raid, are being detonated in a gravel pit at Livingston Mountain in east Clark County today. Clark County Sheriff’s deputy Steve Fox, says that the detonations are apt to be extremely loud.
