MONDAY, Aug.
15, 2005 The Columbia River Economic Development Council's executive board today voted to oppose Initiative 912 that proposes the repeal of the gasoline tax approved by the legislature in the last session. CREDC actively supported the transportation package produced by the legislature that resulted in over $247 million being devoted to Clark County transportation improvement projects, including the start of the replacement of the aging I-5 bridge. The transportation package ensures that Clark County can keep pace with its rapid population and economic growth, according to Bart Phillips, president of the CREDC. Says Phillips: "If we cannot keep pace and accommodate business investment we will assure our position as a bedroom community in the metropolitan area. We must keep ahead of the curve. Our legislative delegation understood this and took a difficult vote. Now it is our turn to support them at the polls."

Sherry Mowatt co-founder, along with Eleanor Van de Water, of the Fort Vancouver Tapestry project, was misidentified in last Friday’s Insider as Sherry Moffat. We’ve written about Mowatt and Van de Water often over the past six years, during when the record-making historical tapestry was in progress. It’s the second time we’ve dropped a stitch, having once previously misspelled Van de Water. The perfectly edited and proofed, 108-foot tapestry is on display in the Student Union Building at Clark College. Calendar The Vancouver City
