Jim Green, interim director of plant services at Clark College, has been appointed director of plant services for the 87-acre campus and over 600,000 square feet of interior building space. Green will direct a workforce of 40 employees, with an operating budget in excess of $2 million a year. Prior to this, Green was construction project manager at the college. He was responsible for completion of the Clark Center at the Washington State University Vancouver, construction of the student union building and renovation of Stout Hall on the main campus, and planning the new Clark College facility at Columbia Tech center. Green has over 30 years of local and national experience in engineering administration and project management. Green is a graduate of Oregon State University and has earned a masters degree in mechanical engineering from Washington State University. Clark County wins national
public The National Association of County Information Officers has awarded both Clark County first place in the special projects category for its dedication ceremony of the Exhibition Hall at the county fairgrounds and the Regional Coalition for Clean Rivers and Streams first place in the education campaign category. Clark County is a member of the Vancouver-Portland Metropolitan Area coalition. To demonstrate its tremendous size of the Exhibition Hall, the county held the dedication ceremony in a tent inside the hall at the opposite end of the entry way. million The Clark County Community Action Program has awarded nearly $1 million in grants to local organizations combating homelessness. The largest grant, $208,040, went to Share Homes, a program providing 90 days’ shelter to homeless single women. Another Share program, Share Aspire, was awarded $162,740 for housing and case management for chronically homeless individuals and families. Share Outreach was awarded $63,780 to provide a service center that will offer restroom facilities, showers ad laundry equipment for homeless people. Three YWCA of Clark County programs, including the YWCA Safe Choice Domestic Violence program, were awarded a total of $220,560. Janus Youth, a youth outreach program was awarded $192,180. A Columbia River Mental Health program providing employment and educational services was awarded $141,270. The Salvation Army was awarded $41,660, and the local Volunteer Lawyers organization received $25,850. News brief A two-day cooking training program is being offered by Southwest Washington Medical Center for prospective volunteers for the Ray Hickey Hospice House. The training program will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, and Thursday, Aug. 24, in the Hospice House at 2112 E Mill Plain Boulevard. She has performed with Pepe & the Bottle Blondes; she has sung “Come On-a My House” all through Hip Furniture’s 30 second commercial; she’s done voiceovers for local television; she’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Admission is free for the Corwin Beverage, Spanky’s Family Consignment sponsored concert. Food and non-alcoholic beverage vendors are in attendance. n Columbia Credit Union is offering a business social from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening in its newly renovated Cascade Park Branch, 131st Avenue and Mill Plain Boulevard. Singapore Slings, Asian-inspired food, free gifts and prizes are being offered. n Alice Cooper performs at the Clark County Fair at 7:30 p.m. this evening. Grandstand admission is free with admission to the fair. Reserved seating is $20. n A free seminar on immigration law and workplace enforcement, sponsored by Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, is from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, in Suite 701, the Vancouvercenter, 700 Washington Street.
