Mario Fabris, who joined Southwest Washington Medical Center in 2001, has been appointed director of Diagnostic Imaging at the medical center. He will oversee all elements of the medical center’s advanced radiology and diagnostic imaging services. Fabris, who has over 19 years’ experience in health care, most recently was manager of the Medical Center’s Computerized Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Departments. Prior to joining SWMC, Fabris had been director of Imaging Services for Tenet Healthcare Systems, Garden Grove Hospital & Medical Center, Garden Grove, Calif. Fabris is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Southwest Washington Medical Center has 3,200 employees and 580 active medical staff members providing support for more than 30 different medical specialty services and programs focused on cancer, heart, emergency, trauma, neuro-musculoskeletal, gamily birth and primary care. program Oboists Humbert Lucarelli and Victoria Racz will star in the finale of the Northwest Oboe Seminar recital, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, in All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 4033 SE Woodstock Blvd., Portland. The recital will be conducted by Norman Leyden. Lucarelli, professor of oboe at Hartt School, West Hartford, Conn., has performed worldwide and been acclaimed by the New York Times as “America’s leading oboe recitalist.” Leyden, who initiated the Oregon Symphony’s pop series in 1970, retired from the Oregon Symphony in 2004 after being name laureate associate conductor. A graduate of Yale University in 1938, Leyden during World War II was the arranger for Glenn Miller’s Air Force Band in England and France. Leyden, a renowned jazz clarinetist, earned his doctorate from Columbia University with a dissertation on conductor Arturo Toscanini. Vancouver’s Racz, director of the Northwest Oboe Seminar, is general manager of the Junior Symphony of Vancouver and Oregon Chamber Players. She has soloed and guest conducted throughout the region. People Oregon Chamber Players, Vancouver students, Erin Lowry, a senior at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, and Brynne Dykes, sixth grader at La Center Elementary School, have each been awarded scholarships by Oregon Chamber Players for further musical studies.
