Port of Kalama lands
wine bottle manufacturer

Cameron Family Glass Packaging, a newly formed company, has selected the Port of Kalama for a new plant that will manufacture wine bottles. The Cameron family has over 100 years in the beverage bottling industry, most recently as the 10th largest U.S. distributor for Coca Cola.

The new plant will employ 90 people, according to the port’s president of the board, Fred Swanstrom.

Cameron had been looking at plant sites in California, Oregon and Nevada, but decided on Kalama due to the size of the Northwest’s wine industry, favorable power costs, a skilled workforce and proximity of the highway and railroad, according to Swanstrom.

Washington’s annual $4 billion wine industry ranks second in the nation, with more than 400 wineries and about 350 wine grape growers.

Marshall Leadership Award
nominations being accepted

Nominations for the 2006 General George C. Marshall Leadership Award are being accepted through Thursday, Sept. 21, reports Kim Hash, director of programs and donor relations for the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust, sponsors of the annual award along with the Bank of Clark County.
