Beth Quartarolo, former chair of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed president of the nearly 1,500-member business organization, succeeding John McKibbin, who is leaving in August, it was announced today by chamber chairman Mark Brandon. Quartarolo, most recently communications manager for Intel, was chair of the chamber of commerce in 2003-2004. Quartarolo, active in community affairs, had been manager of public affairs and community affairs for Hewlett-Packard for 12 years. She is a member of the board of Identity Clark County. Quartarolo is a former chair of the Association of Washington Business and of Community Choices 2010. She is a former member of the board of Southwest Washington Center for the Arts. Prior to joining Hewlett-Packard, Quartarolo was director of corporate communications for Transamerica Corporation and a corporate officer with First Nationwide Bank, San Francisco. An accredited member of the International Association of Business Communicators, Quartarolo graduated from Stanford and earned a masters in business administration from UCLA. McKibbin resigned from the chamber’s top paid post effective in August to become a principal in RiverWalk on the Columbia, a public-private partnership proposing a 60-acre mixed-use development on the Columbia River at the Port of Camas-Washougal. Quartarolo will be introduced to chamber members and the public at a 5-to-7 p.m. Chamber After Hours function celebrating the organization’s move to new headquarters at 1101 Broadway, Suite 100. Keith Coats memorial A memorial service for Keith Coats, accountant, sports aficionado and bicyclist, who died at his Vancouver home Friday, is at 3 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 8310 MacArthur Boulevard. Mr. Coats, who attended Rocky Mountain College on a football scholarship, interrupted his education with a stint in the U.S. Army in 1954 and returned to graduate from the University of North Dakota with a degree in accounting. Until retiring, Mr. Coats owned Coats Tax and Accounting in Vancouver. Mr. Coats was a Columbia Little League baseball coach for many years. As a cyclist, Mr. Coats twice completed the Seattle to Portland bicycle race. In recent years, unable to bicycle, Mr. Coats often crossed the Interstate Bridge between Vancouver and Jantzen Beach on a motorized scooter Mr. Coats, who was preceded in death by a daughter, Jana Meree and a brother Dewayne, is survived by his wife of 44 years, Astrid (Ozzie), three sons, Brian, Sammamish, and David and Douglas, San Diego. Mr. Coats is also survived by two grandchildren, Madeline and Nathan, Sammamish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice Southwest. Curtis and Malinowski;
Franklin Filing for political office opened today and, by mid-afternoon, opposing candidates for two local offices had filed. Incumbent Clark Public Utilities commissioner Carol Curtis filed for re-election and her opponent of six years ago, Jim Malinowski also filed for election to that office. Incumbent Democrat Clark County assessor Linda Franklin filed for re-election. Opposing Franklin will be Republican Bill Jameson, who also filed today. Other early Monday filers for partisan offices were as follows: Pat Campbell, Democrat, Position 1, 17th District; incumbent Bill Fromhold, Democrat, Position 1, 49th District; Incumbent Greg Kimsey, Republican, county auditor; MarCine Miles, Democrat, county clerk; Incumbent Steve Stuart, Democrat, county commissioner, District 3; Incumbent Dave Lasher, Democrat, county treasurer; Candidates for political office have until 5 p.m. Friday, July 28, to file for office, reports Clark County auditor Greg Kimsey. Clark County commissioners meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, and will
discuss an agreement with the U.S. Army that would provide cleanup of
Camp Bonneville, in the event that the county accepts transfer of the
3,800 acres in east Clark County from the Army.
