Service for
Richard Wend is Monday
A funeral service for Richard Wend, who died Monday in an automobile accident following a fishing trip, is 1 p.m. Monday, July 25, in Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 12513 SE Mill Plain Boulevard. He was 79. Mr. Wend, a hunter, fisher and golfer who almost always was preceded by a smile, married Donna Cantonwine Wend in 1990 and since which time he lived in Vancouver. Mr. Wend resided in Longview for 35 years with his wife, Faye G. Wend, who preceded him in death in 1988. He graduated from Kelso High School and attended Washington State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Wend retired from Weyerhaeuser Pulp and Paper in 1984. He was a member of the Kelso Elks Lodge, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and the American Legion. In addition to his wife, Mr. Wend is survived by three daughters, Judy Carlson, Sue Barker and Lynn Eversaul, stepsons Rick Cantonwine and Randy Cantonwine, mother-in-law Elsie Harmic, a sister, Rosemarie Neil, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A dessert reception in the church follows the service. Contributions may be made to The Mission Endowment Fund, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Camas Days getting underway Camas Days get underway in earnest as vendor booths open at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, in downtown Camas. Events, including baseball and softball championships, are nearly nonstop over the three-day event, which ends with the 2 p.m. Camas-Washougal Rotary Club Ducky Derby at the 3rd Avenue bridge over the Washougal River. The Toast of Camas, a wine and brew event, is 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, on Birch Street between 4th and 5th Streets. Zuzu Blue entertains at 5 p.m.; Moondance, at 7 p.m. both nights. The annual steak dinner at Grove Field in Fern Prairie is at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 23. invites knot-hole gang to An almost real-time camera offers on-line views of actual construction of Southwest Washington Medical Center’s eight-floor patient and operating suite tower at the medical center’s Mill Plain campus. The $146 million expansion is the centerpiece of expansion expected to be completed by December 2006. The project will provide the community with 154 new private patient rooms and 15 operating rooms. Viewers can watch construction on-line and manipulate camera views by going to www.swmedicalcenter.com and following instructions, or by clicking on the appropriate lines in the medical center ad in the left column of the on-line Daily Insider. Calendar The Vancouver Business Journal’s selection of the top Clark County construction projects for 2005 begins at 4:30 p.m. today in the Clark County Center for Community Health on the grounds of the Veterans Administration complex. There is an admission fee. n The Antics entertain tonight in the free Riverview Bank Six-to-Sunset concert at 6 p.m. this evening in Esther Short Park. Potables, and viands are available from vendors. n The final presentation in the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site archaeology speaker series is at 7 p.m. this evening in the Pearson Air Museum auditorium, 1115 E. 5th Street. Park service archaeologist Robert Cromwell will discuss U. S. Grant’s role in Vancouver Barracks.
