A new splash pad, playground and picnic plaza have opened at the Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation Klineline Pond at Salmon Creek. The improvements are part of the parks and recreation department’s upgrading at the park, which will continue this year with the addition of a new picnic shelter, fishing pier and a dock. The park, at 1112 NE 117th Street, is one of the most popular in Clark County. It offers swimming, fishing and picnicking, and access to the 3.2-mile long Salmon Creek Greenway. The park is open from 7 a.m. to dusk daily. There is no admission fee, but there is a $2 parking fee for automobiles. Health department closes Vancouver Lake Vancouver Lake today was closed to swimming, wading, and wind-surfing for at least the next week, reports Clark County health officer Alan Melnick. Regular testing of the lake recently detected E. coli above acceptable levels. “Clark County Public Health will test Vancouver Lake water samples twice next week” Melnick said. “If all subsequent testing is negative, we will recommend re-opening the lake to all activities. Clark County Public Health will coordinate with Parks and Recreation to ensure that the order is enforced and water samples are collected for testing.” E. coli infections can be very mild (even asymptomatic) or very severe, even fatal, according to Melnick.
