Columbia River Crossing Task Force
sets 4-hour meeting to pare alternatives

During a four-hour meeting in Vancouver next week, the Columbia River Crossing Task Force is expected to narrow its study to 12 preliminary alternative improvements to the I-5 corridor between Highway 500 in Vancouver to Columbia Boulevard in Portland.

Each of the preliminary alternatives combines a public transit and an I-5 bridge crossing of the Columbia River with elements to improve bicycle and pedestrian access, freight movement, and travel safety and efficiency between Vancouver and Portland.

Over the next several months, the alternatives will be tested to determine how each reduces congestion and improves safety.

With no changes, congestion on I-5 at the Interstate Bridge is expected to increase from the current 4 to 6 hours a day to 13 hours a day by 2020.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and will have an opportunity to provide comment before the task force begins its deliberations at the 4 p.m. meeting, Wednesday, July 12, in the southwest regional headquarters of the state Department of Transportation, 11018 NE 51st Circle.

Further information is available by going to the Columbia River Crossing website, www.ColumbiaRiverCrossing.org.

Bank of Clark County best
company to work for again

For the fourth consecutive year the Bank of Clark County has been judged one of the Best Companies to Work for in Washington State by Washington CEO Magazine.

Washington CEO rated Bank of Clark County 18th best in a list 33 small businesses in the state. The ratings were, in part, determined by a confidential survey of employees.

Last month the Bank of Clark County was named, for the fifth consecutive year, one of the top 100 fastest growing companies in the Portland region by The Business Journal of Portland.

Fort Vancouver Tapestry
to leave Clark College

The Fort Vancouver Tapestry, which has been on display at Clark College since August 2005, will end its run on Sunday, July 9, with a celebration for the stitchers at 4 p.m.

Oops

In a story this week about Sheri Johnson’s being promoted to assistant vice president in the sales and service department of Columbia Credit Union, the Insider mistakenly credited Johnson with being a member of the 2006 graduating class of Leadership Clark County. Johnson actually is enrolled in the 2006-2007 Leadership Clark County class.
