Cindy High and Sheri Johnson have been named assistant vice presidents in the sales and service department of Columbia Credit Union, reports Laurie Kusch, senior vice president, member services. High and Johnson will be charged with helping improve services for the credit union’s over 60,000 members. High, a Washington native, has 13 years’ credit union experience and previously worked as program manager for Allied Solutions, which provided insurance-related products for 35 credit unions. High is a member of both the Greater Vancouver and the Camas-Washougal Chambers of Commerce. She is a volunteer fund-raiser for Innovative Services NW. Johnson has been with Columbia Credit Union for the past 20 years, most recently as senior manager of member services. Also a native of Washington, Johnson is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Clark County. She is co-chairwoman of the credit union’s Relay For Life team. Sixty years later, Alfred
Folkerts This evening World War II veteran Alfred Folkerts will be presented with a Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman’s Badge Good Conduct Medal and various service ribbons that he was denied when honorably discharged from the service in 1946. “The Army told me they were out of medals at the time,” Folkerts later told U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd), “but that they would mail them to me later.” Later never came, according to Folkerts, who pursued the matter only to be told that all of his records were destroyed in a fire at the National Personnel Records Center in 1973. Folkerts, who enlisted in the Army at 18 and served in the South Pacific, where he fought in several combat landings and kept copies of his separation documents, learned that Congressman Baird's office could assist him with his medal search after reading an article in the paper about what the Congressman had done for another veteran. Baird, who was able to help prove Folkerts was entitled to his medals, will present them to the veteran at 7 p.m. in the Washington State University Vancouver auditorium, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Road. $100,000 in historical
promotion At least $100,000 in historical promotion grants will be available to Clark County organizations during 2007, according to Kelly Sills, the county’s policy assistant for historical promotion grants. The grants may be used to promote historical preservation or historical programs, which may include preservation of historical documents. Applications for the grants be completed by Friday, Aug. 25. Forms may be obtained from the county website, www.clark.wa.gov/bocc/current_issues/issues.html.
