Baird bringing government and business
leaders together to talk permit streamlining

U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd) has set a roundtable session, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, to discuss streamlining the permitting process at every governmental level. This will take place in the community room at Clark Public Utilities, 1200 Fort Vancouver Way.

In addition to federal, state and local officials, Baird has invited local business leaders, foresters, farmers, builders and environmentalists to attend.

“Small business owners, family foresters, and many others continue to tell me that the regulatory permitting process continues to be unnecessarily costly and time consuming.,” Baird says.

Since 2001, Baird has organized permit streamlining meetings to bring local business leaders, farmers, builders, port officials and others together with federal, state and local officials to improve the permitting process. As a result of these meetings, several federal and state agencies have made significant progress in streamlining permits, reducing application backlogs and complexity, and improving coordination to expedite the permitting process.

Baird says he will hold similar meetings in Longview and Centralia. For further information, call Meghan O'Shaughnessy, (202) 225-3536.
