Mark Hess and Derek Jordan have joined the JD White company as a senior project manager and planner respectively. Hess has 20 years’ experience in the private and public sectors, working most recently in Sarasota and Bradenton, Fla., where he was involved in development, signage and rezoning projects. Prior to moving to Florida, Hess was a design review planner for Multnomah County and a planner for the city of West Linn. Hess has been involved with central city planning for Portland, Eugene, Sarasota and St. Petersburg. He holds a master of urban planning degree from the University or Oregon, is accredited by the American Institute of Certified Planners, and is a member of the American Planning Association. A 2006 graduate of the University of Washington, where he was on the Dean’s List from 2003 to 2006, Jordan has two years’ experience as an intern with the City of Renton. $100,000 Southwest Washington Medical Center has awarded $100,000 to Washington State University Vancouver to support a statewide initiative to develop a Doctorate of Nursing program, it was announced today by SWMC president and CEO Joe Kortum. Kortum said that the grant will be used toward development of a DNP program through the Washington State University Intercollegiate College of Nursing. The Nursing program at WSU Vancouver is currently home to three advanced practice nursing programs, in which a total of 110 students are enrolled. The medical center is committed to providing advanced training for nurses in an increasingly complex industry, Kortum said. Clark County Historical
Museum Three Saturday performances by the Vancouver Youth Theatre are scheduled for 11 a.m. July 8, August 12 and September 9, in the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main Street. The Summer Olio, directed by Jim Rourk, will offer musical variety shows in the museum. The community based, nonprofit volunteer-run theatre group was established in 1997,\. City hardnosed over fireworks Fines for a single violation for unlawful sale, use or possession of legal fireworks in the City of Vancouver is $250; for illegal fireworks, $500. There may be added penalties for irresponsible use of fireworks or if injuries result. The sale of legal fireworks begins in the Vancouver area at noon Wednesday, June 28. Legal fireworks may be discharged between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. through Wednesday July 5, except for July 4, when legal fireworks may be discharged through midnight. The city does not permit the use of fireworks at any other times of the year. People Susan Edwards, a principal with Advanced Performance Associates, has earned the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance from the American Society for Training & Development. Edwards’ company specializes in incorporate performance improvement. n Max Anderson, Longview, has been appointed to a four-year term on the board of trustees of Lower Columbia College. Anderson is a member of the state Bar Association and a registered investment advisor. He is the president of the Lower Columbia College Foundation board of directors and volunteers as the head soccer coach for the women’s soccer team at Lower Columbia.
