Page Paulsen Phillips, currently a land use planner for Portland-based EcoNorthwest, has been appointed to the U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash.) outreach staff. Ellis succeeds Erin Hyppa, who has signed on with the state Democratic Party’s 2006 Seattle Campaign. Ellis has worked for Oregon’s Democratic representatives Earl Blumenauer and Elizabeth Furse, and for Colorado’s Democratic representative Mark Udall. Southbound I-5 closures All southbound lanes on Interstate Highway 5 between I-205 and NE 134th Street will be closed between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. tonight, Saturday and Sunday to accommodate construction in the area. In addition, there will be numerous lane and ramp closures in all directions during this construction schedule, the state Department of Transportation reports. There will also be some lane closures during daytime hours, according to WSDOT. Motorists are advised to heed work zone speed limits. Interest high at Columbia Credit Union Columbia Credit Union directors have nominated each applicant, 17 in all, for three open positions on the credit union’s board of directors, according to board chairman Duane Bequette. The board also nominated seven persons for four positions on the supervisory committee. Board of director nominees are as follows: Mark L. Ail, Warren R. Bigelow, Victor G. Bitar, John C. Cheek, Judith L. Chipman, Jarret Curtin, Michael R. England, Gregory D. Flakus, H. Dexter Garey, Walter E. Hansen Sr., John F. Howes, Brianna N. Johnston, Dale Magers, Lloyd K. Marbet, Charles McDonald, Douglas A. Schafer and Nancie Weinans. Supervisory committee nominees are as follows: John Bucholtz, Christopher Buhle, Donald W. Harris, Bill Hughes, Lowell J. McDougal, Linda Meadows and Angie Rawson. Ballots will be mailed to some 60,000 eligible voting members of the organization on July 31. Votes must be returned by August 25. Winners will be announced at the credit union’s annual meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 29. Kids Digs at Fort Vancouver
site offers Children between the ages of 8 and 12 are being offered hands-on archaeology experience through a series of daily Kids Digs at the National Park Service’s Fort Vancouver site beginning Saturday, July 1, according to NPS spokesperson Heidi Pierson. Children will work as a team excavating boxes filled with soil layers and artifacts that reflect the typical Fort Vancouver archaeological site. They will also take notes and describe the artifacts they discover. Supervised sessions are offered at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. No pre-registration is required, but each dig is limited to 20 persons. Sign-up sheets will be posted at the fort site at 9 a.m. each day. McNamara, Vancouver, has been appointed to a six-year term on the Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board by Gov. Chris Gregoire. n Vancouver Methodist Foundation $1,000 scholarship grants have been announced for 14 Clark County high school students. Garnet P. Allen and Dorothy Camets bequests were earned by the following: Mariah Acton and Daniel Wheelon, both of Prairie High School, Stephanie Bieber and Katie Lang, both of Battle Ground High School, Matthew Cornell and Allison Newland, both of Camas High School, Anna Cox and Nicole Mullen, both of Skyview High School, Derek Garth and Lisa Hust, both of Columbia River High School, Jagdeep Kaur and Irina Sivkov, both of Fort Vancouver High School. The John Gary Memorial Scholarship was earned by Emila Villagrana, La Center High School. Winner of the Perry Johnigan Memorial Scholarship was Whitney Yeong Peterson, Hudson’s Bay High School. Elise Luttrell Memorial Scholarships were earned by college students, Caitlin Estes, Clark College, and Kathryn Sandor, Western Washington University. College students Lydia Garth, Whitworth, and Laura Yoder, Oregon State University, were awarded Chuck and Peter DeLong Memorial Scholarships.
