The JD White Company Inc. will become a division of BERGER/ABAM Engineers Inc., it was announced this morning in the Hilton Vancouver Washington before an audience that included many of the White company’s 32 staff members. When the acquisition is complete on June 30, John White, founder of the JD White Company, will become a BERGER/ABAM vice president and manager of BERGER/ABAM’s JD White Company Vancouver office at its 1111 Main Street, location. The JD White Company’s Portland office staff will relocate to the BERGER/ABAM Portland office. The 145-person BERGER/ABAM, headquartered in Federal Way, is affiliated with The Berger Group Holdings, East Orange, N.J., one of the largest consulting groups in the world, with 3,600 employees and offices throughout the United States and in 50 foreign companies. BERGER/ABAM has offices in Seattle, Las Vegas and Houston. The two firms have frequently worked together on regional projects. Monday, White said: “We believe that combining the strengths of BERGER/ABAM and JD White is great news for our clients and partners in market segments that are experiencing substantial growth. Our two companies are an excellent strategic fit.” The JD White Company is celebrating its 30th year as a land use, natural resources and public involvement/facilitation consulting firm. JD White currently has over 380 clients in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. White opened the business in an office in the attic of his home and in the same year expanded and moved to a downtown Vancouver office. In 1985, his wife, D’Alene, joined the company as financial officer and office manager. White has been active in the community. He is a past chairman of the Southwest Washington Medical Center board of trustees, and is a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Clark County, Clark College Foundation, the National Neon Sign Museum, the Clark County YMCA, and is a member of the Washington State University Vancouver Advisory Committee. People James F. Morris, former co-chairman of the Clark County Human Services Coalition, has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to the Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment. n Leslie M. Burger has been appointed by Gov. Gregoire to serve on the Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission. Burger is retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs as a veterans’ health administrator, and he previously served as chief medical officer and director. News brief Paul Dorsey, a genetics counselor from the Legacy Cancer Prevention & Risk Assessment Program, will talk about genes and mutations in relation to cancer development, examples of inherited cancer family histories, and other risk factors for developing cancer during a free presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, in Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital, 2211 NE 139th Street. Dorsey will also provide an overview of inherited cancer syndromes and screen measures for high-risk families. For further information, call 487-3500. Calendar The Vancouver City Council meets in workshop session at 5 p.m. today. n In its regular session at 7 p.m. this evening, the Vancouver City Council is expected to approve a resolution calling for a Sept. 19 special election on a $43 million Fort Vancouver Regional Library District proposal to build a new Vancouver library downtown and provide improvements for the Cascade Park and Vancouver Mall Libraries. The city council also has before it a proposal that would nearly triple the cost of business licenses for the smallest businesses in the city. n The Neighborhood Associations Council of Clark County meets at 7 p.m. this evening in the Public Works conference room, 4700 NE 78th Street. n Port of Vancouver commissioners meet in regular session at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 13. n Clark County commissioners meet in regular session at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 13.
