Lori Hughes, manager of the Vancouver Miller Nash law office, has been elected president of the Oregon Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. Hughes, who has worked in the legal field for more than 20 years, has been with Miller Nash since 1992. Hughes is active in the community and is currently on the Clark College Paralegal Advisory Board and the Legal/Medical Advisory Board of the Clark County Skills Center. She attended Portland State University and the University of Hawaii-Manoa. Dan Marsh elected Southwest
Washington Dan Marsh, Marsh, Higgins, Beaty & Hatch, has been elected president of the Estate Planning Council of Southwest Washington. Marsh succeeds Andy Nygard, Edward Jones Investments. National honor goes to Clark The Clark County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit has been awarded a 2005 Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, reports sheriff Garry Lucas. The award notes that the sheriff’s reserve provided 6,319 hours of volunteer service during the past year, including activities that ranged from routine patrol with regular deputies and crime scene protection to SWAT team support. The volunteers provided the sheriff’s department with the equivalent of three full-time support personnel for the full year. News briefs Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard is scheduled to discuss the possibility of toll roads and bridges at a Friday breakfast meeting of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce East Forum. For reservations, call 694-2588. n A free workshop to help local businesses work with the government is at 8 a.m. Friday, June 9, in the Columbia River Economic Development Council. To register, call 694-5006. n The YWCA of Clark County SafeChoice program is running low on food, reports spokesperson Annie Gannon. SafeChoice serves victims of domestic violence by providing a 24-hour crisis line, shelter and counseling. Items most urgently needed are cereal, canned fruit, sugar and coffee. For further information, call Gannon at 906-9153. People Lori A. Pearce has been named Clark County Public Works Administrative Services manager effective June 12. Pearce succeeds Mark McCauley, who was promoted to general services director in March. Pearce formerly worked with the county Treasurer’s Office and joined the Public Works Department in 2002. She also worked for the Portland Energy Office and was with a Vancouver accounting firm. McCauley is a certified public accountant and a graduate of Portland State University. Calendar Val Ogden is being honored as Clark County’s First Citizen for 2006 at a reception at 4 p.m. today in the Hilton Vancouver Washington. The formal presentation is at 5:15 p.m. n Friends of the Cowlitz Tribe are holding a kickoff breakfast for a grass roots group supporting the Cowlitz Casino Resort at 7 a.m. Thursday, June 8, in the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay. n An agreement by Washington State University Vancouver with Clark College and Lower Columbia Community College, providing continued access to qualified community college students in the four-year state university, will be signed at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 8, in the Clark Center Building on the east terrace of the WSU Vancouver Salmon Creek Campus.
