Rebecca Roeter named
Clark County Fair queen
Rebecca Roeter, left, a senior at Charter Academics Marketplace High School,
Battle Ground, has been named queen of the 2005 Clark County Fair. Roeter, who
says she wants to attend Clark College, is a member of her high school honor
society. She is a member of the Hockinson Easy Riders 4-H Club.
Sharing the county Fair court with

Ridgefield High School, and Jennifer Stephens,
right,
a Columbia River High School senior.
The ten-day Clark County fair is
August 5 through 14.
Paintball distributor lands in
Vancouver
Xtremez, one of the leading Internet
retailers in the rapidly growing paintball industry, is moving its headquarters
and distribution center from Tualatin to 1212 W Fourth Plain.
The company, which also operates
two retail stores in the Portland area, will open a retail store at the
Vancouver location in July. According to Xtremez president and CEO
Adam Sites, the local retail store will
also include an indoor paintball playing field.
The company has acquired eight acres
and the former Newark Paper Products.
Xtremez, currently employing 28, was
founded in 1995. It is a designer, distributor and retailer of equipment,
accessories and apparel for the sport of paintball and other action sports. The
company also markets a line of products under the CORE brand name.
According to Sites, the sport of
paintball has boomed in recent years to nearly a $400 million annual industry,
attracting as many as ten million participants in the United States.
Mayor
Royce Pollard says, “Vancouver should be proud that we can attract a
growing e-commerce company that can relocate anywhere. Not only will this
renovate and fill an older industrial building with quality jobs, it will also
bring more people to our city.”
Final hearing on PDX noise
study set over to July 13
Final action by the Port of Portland
on its Portland International Airport Noise Compatibility Study has been set
over to 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, “in order to further consider and respond to
citizen comments,” according to port officials.
The final meeting had been scheduled
for June 8. Vancouver residents along the east-west flight paths have thus far
been rebuffed in their efforts to have flight paths moved south and over
industrial land in Portland.

Milford Westin resigns
Port of Kalama commissioner
Milford Westin, one of the longest
serving port commissioners in the state of Washington, has announced he is
resigning after 27 year of service because he is moving out of the port
district.
Westin was appointed to an unexpired
term on the commission in 1978 and afterwards successfully ran for the office
for five terms. A druggist and owner of a Kalama Pharmacy, Westin is a lifetime
member of the Kalama Lions and Elks Clubs. He was previously a member of the
Cowlitz County School Board and the Kalama Planning Commission.
Applications for an appointment to the
port commission will be accepted through 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, according to
port executive director Lanny Cawley.
