Doug Lasher candidate for
re-election as treasurer

Doug Lasher, who has served as Clark County Treasurer for the past 22 years, has announced that he will again be the Democratic candidate for that office this fall.

Lasher, a Clark County native, is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College and holds a masters degree in public administration from that institution.

Lasher is a past president of the Washington State Association of County Treasurers and is a member of the board of the National Association of County Treasurers and Finance Officers. He is a member of Government Finance Officers Association, Washington Municipal Treasurers Association, Municipal Treasurers Association of the U.S. and Canada,  and the Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee of the National Association of Counties.

Lasher is a member of the Clark County Housing Review Board, the Chkalov Cultural Exchange Committee and the Clark County Historical Society.

During his current term in office, Lasher helped establish the county’s one-stop service center with the county Assessor and county Auditor’s offices. He also implemented the a credit card system for paying property taxes.

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra
showcases Mahler this weekend

The final performances of the season by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra feature Mahler’s Symphony #1. Concerts are at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, and 7 p.m. Sunday, May 7, in the concert hall in Skyview High School, 1300 NW 139th Street.

Music Director Salvador Brotons conducts. Pianist Alex Alguacil performs Brahm’s Piano Concerto #1.

Each concert is preceded an hour earlier by a musical discussion with the audience.

Tickets may be purchased at the door, at Beacock’s Music, Erik Runyan Jewelers, and Music World-Battle Ground. Ticket prices are $5 for students, $20 for seniors, $25 general admission and $35 for reserved seats.

Larry Steele headlines Vancouver
Business Journal
series opener

Former Portland Trail Blazer star Larry Steele headlines the opening program in a Vancouver Business Journal business series “Pitfalls of Successful Business” at 7a.m. Tuesday, May 9, in the Firstenburg Community Center.

Presented by the business journal and Paul Winters, Winters &Associates, and sponsored by First Independent Bank, the seminar is first of yearlong monthly series on issues facing business small businesses earning less than $10 million a year.

FVTV facilitating Mother’s Day
greetings from Farmers Market

Fort Vancouver Television crews will be taping Mother’s Day greetings from the Vancouver Farmers Market between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, reports FVTV volunteer Ken McCoy. Three-minute digital greetings will be cablecast on FVTV, Channel 11, throughout the week beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 14.

FVTV is a public access cablevision station, which provides training, equipment and air time to individuals and groups as a free-speech platform. For further information, call McCoy at 696-4699.

Janet Gallimore, Vancouver, has been appointed to Women’s History Consortium by Gov. Chris Gregoire. Gallimore is the director of education and community engagement for the Confluence Project. Gallimore is a mentor for Women in Action in Vancouver and for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. The consortium is charged with preserving women's history through the Washington State Historical Society and making recommendations for statewide commemoration of the centennial of the adoption in 1910 of the Fifth Amendment to the Washington Constitution, which guaranteed women's suffrage.
