Clark County home builder New Tradition Homes will build only certified energy efficient homes that meet Energy Star standards, according to Steve Tapio, quality control manager and building science team leader for the company. New Tradition Homes expects to build at least 100 homes in seven neighborhoods in the county, says Tapio. Energy Star is the national symbol for energy efficiency, according to Mick Shutt, spokesperson for Clark Public Utilities. Energy Star homes are part of Energy Star Homes Northwest, a program administered by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and funded by participating electric utilities, including Clark Public Utilities. New Traditions Homes will be designed and performance-tested to be at least 15 percent more energy efficient than typical code-built homes in Washington. Energy efficient features will include the following: energy efficient heating and cooling equipment, sealed and performance-tested duct systems, advanced insulation, and Energy Star qualified windows, lighting and dishwashers.
