Low interest loans available
for septic tank improvements

Residents of the Salmon Creek and Gibbons Creek watersheds whose septic tank systems are failing may be eligible for low-interest loans for repair or replacement, reports Jonnie Hyde, public health services manager for Clark County Environmental Health Services.

Loans may run as long as five years and will have an interest rate of 1.5 percent, according to Hyde.

Funding is provided through a loan grant from the state Department of Ecology. For further information, call Hyde at 397-8122.

New name sought for Erickson Farms Park

Because a nearby 4 1/2-acre park in a residential subdivision will be named Erickson Farms Park, the currently named Erickson Farms Park, on which construction is about to begin at NW 114th Street and NW 39th Avenue, will be renamed.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the new park is at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at which time neighbors will be asked to submit ideas for a new name for the park, according to Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation director David Judd.

The landscaped park will feature a playground, multi-use trail and half-court basketball court.

News brief

Clark County property taxes for the first half of the year are due Monday, May 1, Clark County treasurer Doug Lasher reminds. If property owners whose property taxes are not paid through their mortgage payments have not yet received tax bills, they should call the treasurer’s office, 397-2252. Property taxes may be paid by credit card, but a $35 convenience charge will be assessed, Lasher says.

Calendar

An open house at 5 p.m. this afternoon precedes a 7:30 p.m. public hearing on the cleanup process for Camp Bonneville in the Marshall House, 3101 Officers Row. The U.S. Army is prepared to turn over 3,020acres of the former military training camp north of Camas to Clark County, provided the Army and the state Department of Ecology reach agreement on the cleanup process and the cleanup cost. Public comments will be accepted at the meeting and will be accepted by mail through Friday, May 5.
