Young Artists Concert
Salvador Brotons,
music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the orchestra’s
Young Artist Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, and at 7 p.m. Sunday, April
17, in the Skyview High School Concert Hall, 1300 NW 139th Street.
Being showcased are two young musicians who won the
symphony orchestra’s competition in February.
Ely Karr,17, Vancouver, was chosen best in the violin category and
Eloise Kim, 12, Tigard, won the piano
competition. Karr will play the “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso” by Camille
Saint-Saens. Kim performs the first movement of
Concerto in E Minor by Frederic Chopin. Also on the program are “Le
Tombeau de Couperin” by Ravel and de Falla’s “The Three-Cornered Hat.”

Nighttime lane closures this
Week on I-205 134th Avenue
Motorists traveling I-205 northbound for the next two
nights will have short detours at the NE 134th Street interchange between 10
p.m. and 5 a.m. as highway crews work on the NE 20th Avenue bridge crossing.
Similar detours will be required of southbound motorists
Thursday, April 14, and Friday, April 15.
Volunteers being sought for
hazardous materials study
A study to document the movement of hazardous materials
truck traffic through Clark County will utilize field observation volunteers,
according to De Ann Wilson, study manager
for the Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee.
The information collected will be used by fire, law
enforcement, emergency management and other public safety professionals for
emergency planning, Wilson says.
Volunteers must be able to pass a basic
security-clearance background check. Training begins Friday, April 22.

Studded tires gotta go
Beginning Tuesday, April 12, tickets will be issued to
motorists who still have studded tires on their vehicles. The minimum fine is
$101.
Studded tires are legal in Washington between November 1
to March 31, but the deadline was extended this year. Oregon will also be
issuing citations for studded tire use.
