Bruce Hagensen, former Vancouver mayor, Saturday was nominated by the Clark County Republican Party as its candidate to face Democrat county commissioner Steve Stuart in the November 2006 election. Although only in his second year as a county commissioner, Stuart, who was appointed to the post in December 2004, will be running for the second time. He defeated former Republican state representative Tom Mileke in a close race last November, to complete the term vacated by Craig Pridemore, who resigned and went on to win a four-year term as state senator for the 49th District. The race between Hagensen and Stuart will be for a full four-year term on the board of county commissioners. Local Republicans nominated Paul Harris as their candidate to run against incumbent Democrat Deb Wallace for state representative from the 17th District. Republican Randy Mueller, who earlier announced he would be the Republican candidate for Wallace’s post, dropped out after the local party failed to give him their required 25 percent delegate vote in order to run as a Republican. The party also backed its incumbents, nominating county auditor Greg Kimsey, county sheriff Garry Lucas, state Reps. Jim Dunn, 17th District, Richard Curtis and Ed Orcutt, both in the 18th District. Bill Jameson was named Republican candidate for the post of county assessor, and Blaine Wilson was named candidate for county clerk. Candidates nominated for 49th District posts as state representative were Nancy DeLeo and Sharon Long. Tom Crowson was named the party’s favorite to run against U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, and Mike McGavick got the county party nomination for U.S. Senate to oppose Democrat Maria Cantwell. Legacy Salmon Creek
