Bob Schaefer selected for 2006 Outstanding
Alumni Award at Clark College 2006

Legislative and community leader Robert M. Schaefer has been named the recipient of the 2006 Clark College Outstanding Alumni Award.

The award will be presented during the college’s annual Alumni Student Dinner, at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in Gaiser Hall.  Fourth Plain Blvd.

Schaefer, a Vancouver attorney, served eight years in the Washington Legislature, including two years as Speaker of the House.

In addition to his service in the legislature, Schaefer has served on numerous boards, including the Columbia River Economic Development Council, the Southwest Washington Medical Center and Foundation boards, and the Washington State High Technology Coordinating Board.  In 1972, Schaefer helped found HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed), an organization that has aided in tutoring more than 1 million students since its inception.  He also established a committee in 1983 that developed the plan for the creation of WSU Vancouver.

R. Wayne Branch, Clark College president, said, “We are extremely proud to honor Robert Schaefer with our 2006 Outstanding Alumni Award.   He has strong connections to the college through his own educational experiences and through the contributions of his wife Sally, who served on our Board of Trustees.  Through his support of business and education, Robert Schaefer has played an instrumental role in the economic health of our region.”

Tickets for the $25 dinner are available through the college’s alumni office,  992-2542.
