Public hearing to follow open house on
amended I-5 Battle Ground interchange
The state Department of Transportation is holding an open
house, on the revised Interstate 5, Highway 502 interchange serving the Battle
Ground area, at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 24, and then opens a public hearing on
the matter at 6 p.m. The open house and hearing are in the DOT regional
headquarters, 11018 NE 51st Circle, just off NE 112th Avenue and Highway 500.
The revised plan saves about $1 million from preliminary
estimates for the total $34 million interchange, which is one of the state’s
“nickel” projects, being financed primarily by a five-cent tax per gallon of
gasoline.
The interchange, designed to speed traffic between
Interstate 5 and 219th Street, which is also state Highway 502, offers Battle
Ground commuters access to I-5 both north and south. Those intending to travel
north on I-5, however, would be required to make a left-hand turn from 219th
Street.
Construction is expected to begin in 2007, and completion
is expected in 2009.
