1956 Clark College state baseball champs to be honored Saturday

Surviving members of the 1956 Clark College baseball state championship team will be introduced during half-time at a men’s basketball game between Clark and Grays Harbor Community College Saturday, Feb. 18, in the O’Connell Sports Center gymnasium.

The team basketball, signed by the team members will be presented to the parents of centerfielder Harley H. Hall, whose navy fighter was shot down during his third tour of duty in Vietnam in 1973, and who is still listed as missing.

Skeets O’Connell, who will attend the ceremonies, led four basketball squads, three golf teams and one baseball team to state championships during a 40-year career at the college.

The women’s basketball game begins at 1 p.m. The men’s game starts at 3 p.m. Adult admission is $5.

District Court judges present
People’s Court explanations

The purposes and successes of special courts within the Clark County District Court system will be discussed by the judges themselves during a presentation being offered at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the 6th-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street.

Judge explaining the aspects of special courts are Vern Schreiber, the Domestic Violence Court, Kenneth Eiesland the Mental Health Court, Rich Melnick, Substance Abuse Court, and Darvin Zimmerman, the Homeless Court.

Medicaid and long-term health care
gets airing at Forum at the Library

Issues involving Medicaid and long-term health care will be discussed at the Forum at the Library at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in Library Hall at the Vancouver Community Library, 1007 E Mill Plain Boulevard.

Presenters are Barbara Blaylock, financial services specialist for the state Department of Social and Health Services, and Jill Ramsey, social worker supervisor for the state DSHS.

Forums at the Library are free.
