Administrator Bob Moser Bob Moser, who retired earlier this year after 18 years as an elected commissioner for the Port of Vancouver, also had a previous career as a Clark College administrator. The boy from Oklahoma came to Clark in 1960 to serve the college in public relations, alumni affairs, student programs and college advancement. This evening, the college and its alumni are honoring Moser with a roast and dinner at 6 p.m. in the Student Center in Gaiser Hall. Billing themselves as the Bob Moser Fan Club, the promoters of the dinner promise an evening of fun and surprises. Admission to the 6 p.m. buffet

director
Leann Johnson has been appointed director for Equity and Diversity, a newly created position at Clark College. Johnson will also serve as a member of the Executive Cabinet and will report to the president of the college on activities related to the campus multicultural committee. Johnson previously was manager of Cultural Services for the City of Vancouver. There, she designed and managed the Diversity Institute. Prior to joining the city, Johnson had been director of the Office of Intercultural Affairs and Civil Rights for the YWCA of Clark County. Johnson is a native of Vancouver and a graduate of University of Portland. Johnson received the Val Joshua Racial Justice Award in 1993 and, in 1998, was selected as a Woman of Achievement by the YWCA and Clark College. Johnson is a member of the state Arts Commission and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Gail Robinson receives Gail Robinson, Clark College English department faculty member, is a recipient of a 2005 Oregon Literary Fellowship, sponsored by Portland-based Literary Arts. The fellowship includes a literary nonfiction category award of $500 to help Robinson complete her memoir, with the working title, Into Silence. The memoir describes her family’s struggles with alcoholism, drug addition, and sexual abuse, and the impact on herself and her family of her sister’s suicide at the age of 22. Students and parents interested in the Clark College Running Start program, which allows eligible high school juniors and seniors to take classes at Clark College, leading to graduation from high school and Clark at the same time, are urged to attend an informational meeting in the Clark College gymnasium in the O’Connell Sports Center, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1. Students and faculty will explain the eligibility criteria and the teaching process. For further information, call 992-2842. New brief The Southwest Washington Head Start Program, serving Clark, Cowlitz and Pacific Counties, has been awarded $3.7 million in a competitive grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, reports U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd). The federal funds will provide opportunities for more than 1,000 children from low-income families. The program offers dental screenings, lunches, nutrition programs, parent education, and early childhood education classes. Calendar A draft of the proposed Clark County Wetlands ordinance will be reviewed at an open house at 5 p.m. this evening in the Pubic Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street. n An open house to thank voters in Evergreen Public Schools for approving bonds to build the new Covington Middle School is being held in the school from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening. The school is at 11200 NE Rosewood Road. n Oops Miller Nash attorney Christopher Veley, who founded the Young Lawyers Section of the Clark County Bar Association, is president of Young Lawyers Section, not of the county bar association, as erroneously reported in the Insider.
