FRIDAY JAN. 20 2006 Wayne Clemetson named
Wayne Clemetson, who served the YMCA for 39 years before joining the Clark College Foundation, has been appointed vice president and business development officer for the Bank of Clark County. Clemetson was executive director of the YMCA of Clark County from 1985 to 1998, and was development director for the Family YMCA of Clark County during the period the east Vancouver facility was financed and built. Clemetson has been active in the community, serving as president of the Vancouver Rotary last year, and as a member of the American Red Cross board, the Youth Outreach board and as a volunteer for Sharehouse. He is a graduate of California State University, Los Angeles. People Robert M. Schaefer will receive Clark College’s 2006 Outstanding Alumni Award, reports Will Pollard, president of Clark’s Alumni Association. Schaefer, a Vancouver attorney, is a former 49th District state representative, who went on to become Speaker of the House. Schaeffer received his associate of arts degree from Clark College in 1950, He will be honored during a Clark College Alumni-Student Dinner, Thursday, April 20. n Fred Swanstrom has been elected president of the Port of Kalama board of commissioners. Swanstrom, formerly of Vancouver, is a labor relations and personnel consultant. He is a former member of the Vancouver city council, former deputy superintendent of the Vancouver School District and former superintendent of the Camas School District. Jim Lucas was elected vice president of the port board and Randy Sweet was elected secretary of the board. n U.S. Rep. Brian Baird (D-3rd) appears on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann this evening at 5:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Baird will discuss ways of curbing Wall Street insider trading within Congress. n Ed Firstenburg will be celebrating his 93rd birthday with a 2 p.m. reception Sunday, Jan. 22, in the Waterford, 2911 SE Village Loop. News briefs The Vancouver Rotary Club raised a record $227,500 from its annual Festival of Trees last November. The money is earmarked for the Vancouver Rotary Foundation. Grants this year include $70,000 in local scholarships, and $44,000 for the Silver Buckle Youth Equestrian Center to help built a new barn. n Nelson Holmberg, former Oregonian and Columbian newspaper reporter, has announced the opening of a public relations, marketing and design company, Noslen Communication. which begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, and 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, are
preceded by an hour-long “musical conversation.” Tickets are $5 for
