Free breakfast opens county fair tomorrow
This is how the Clark County Fair midway looked a year ago. The
fair is bigger and better this year
Thousands first-day Clark County Fairgoers, including U.S. Rep. Brian Baird
(D-3rd), will crowd the grandstand at the fairgrounds Friday, Aug.
6, for the 8-to-11 a.m. free breakfast sponsored by Fred Meyer Stores. The
breakfast and admittance to the fair are free with coupons from participating
Fred Meyer stores.
According to Tom Musser, fair director,
the ten-day event attended by a quarter of a million people each year, is
the largest single-location event in the Vancouver-Portland metropolitan area.
Entertainment at the Comcast Stage and the KKAD Community Stage is nearly
non-stop. Carnival rides begin at noon each day, except for opening day when
they begin at 9 a.m.
The cost of reserve tickets for the Columbian Concert
Stage entertainment vary. Grandstand seating, which is not reserved, is free
with admission to the fair. Friday night's 7:30 p.m. headliner in the concert
stage is REO Speedwagon, for which reserved seating is $20.
Three country entertainers follow over the next three days
with 7:30 performances: John Michael Montgomery, Saturday, $15; Dierks
Bentley, Sunday, $15; and Tracey Lawrence Monday, $15. Tuesday 7:30
p.m. grandstand entertainment is Creedence Clearwater ReVisited, $18.
Seating is not reserved for grandstand entertainment
during the rest of the fair, which concludes Sunday, Aug. 15, and is free with
fair admission. Grandstand shows are as follows: Wednesday, Aug. 11, Mutton
Bustin', 6 p.m. and Northwest Bull Riding Championship, 7:30 p.m.; Thursday,
Aug. 12, Extreme "Big Air" Motorcycles, and Quad Wars and Mini Warriors, 2 p.m.
and 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 13, Bobcat Wars, 2 p.m., and Demolition Derby, 7:30
p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 14, Pro Arena Trucks and Tuff Trucks, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and
Sunday, Aug. 15, Monster Trucks, 2 and 7:30 p.m.
C-TRAN has teamed up with People's Community Credit
Union to provide free bus transportation to and from the fair from most C-TRAN
park-and-ride and transit center locations. Adult admission is $8. Parking is
$5. For further information on the 2004 Clark County Fair, call 397-6180.
