County residential growth slows in April
Residential growth in
Clark County, as measured by the number of new Clark Public
Utilities’ residential hook-ups for the month of April,
continues to be slower than the growth a year ago.
During April this year,
the electric utility reports 126 new residential customers,
bringing the annual growth rate down to 1.76 percent for the
first four months of the year.
During March 2004, 230
new families signed up for electric power.
Last year, the growth
rate measured by 4,011 new families was 2.65 percent, an average
of 334 families per month.

forum on county capital facilities planning
A public forum to discuss
the proposed Capital Facilities Plan segment of Clark County’s
20-year Growth Management Plan is being presented at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, June 2, in the sixth floor conference room of the
county Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin Street.

Clark County and the Sierra Club Loo Wit Group, the forum is
titled “Can We Afford the Growth We Are Planning for?”

Friends of Clark County, will moderate the presentation by

$1 million prize for
hole-in-one up for
grabs during Care Cup Golf Tournament
Sponsors of the 6th
annual Care Cup Golf Tournament, being held Friday, June 18, at
the Cedars Golf Course, are being offered a $1 million prize if
they make a hole-in-one on the course’s 165-yeard hole.

After $300,000
improvements, Ridgefield Boat Launch is expected to open
Memorial Day
A $300,000 renovation
project at the Ridgefield Boat Launch is expected to be
completed in time for Memorial Day activities, according to
Brent Grening, executive
director of the Port of Ridgefield.
When completed, the
popular Lake River marine facility, a mile from the Columbia
River, will have a new day-use dock, new boat launch floats, a
paved parking lot, new landscaping and lighting, and an improved
picnic area.
The boat launch is
accessed from Mill Street in downtown Ridgefield. Parking is $5

The improvements are
being paid for by a grant from the state Interagency Committee
for Outdoor Recreation.
Fire District 6 voters
being asked to extend six-year levy for emergency medical
services
Voters in Fire District,
6, north of Vancouver, are being asked to approve a six-year
levy to replace one that is expiring, at the primary election,
Tuesday, Sept. 14.
Fire District 6 is Clark
County’s largest rural fire district.
The first of a series of
special levies for emergency medical services was approved in
1980. The property tax cost of continuing the service is 45
cents per $1,000 assessed valuation.
Cultural Commission to
dole out $15,000
Vancouver’s Cultural
Commission meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, in the Water
Resources Education Center to consider applications from a
variety of arts and cultural organizations for a total of
$15,000 in cultural grants
